Fibro Personality Research Study Needs More Participants
A study is being carried out at Birmingham University to investigate the "Fibro personality" and whether such a thing exists.
Nicola Dennis, the postgraduate student in the Department of Psychology, who is carrying out the study is looking for more participants to fill out the required questionnaire.
If you would be interested in taking part, please read the information below, download the information sheet (link at the bottom of this page) and then contact Nicola if you think you are eligible to take part in the study.
Please help to encourage research into Fibro by taking part if you can.
What is the purpose of the study?
The researchers interviewed a small number of patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome and they suggested important differences between themselves and the general population. The questions used in this study measure various character traits and attitudes that were suggested as different. We hope to discover whether patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome have the characteristics described by the patients we interviewed and whether these characteristics are also recognised by the partners of patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis are also being included, to assess any effects of a painful disorder that is not Fibromyalgia Syndrome, and control volunteers who do not have any pain.
Can I take part?
Participants in this study can be female or male and must be aged 18-80 years.
The study participants fall into 3 groups:
- Patients diagnosed with Fibromyalgia Syndrome and their partners.
- Patients diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and their partners.
- Control volunteers, who do not have any current pain problem, and their partners.
If you fall into one of these 3 groups and fit the age criteria, then you may be eligible to take part.
